USC student in 'serious' condition after car crash near campus

A USC student was left in “serious” condition after being hit by a car Wednesday outside campus around 10:15 p.m., officials said.

The unidentified 20-year-old pedestrian was struck near the intersection of Downey Way and Vermont Avenue, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department. He was transported to a local hospital.

In most cases, a ruling that injuries are “serious” means that they will be non-fatal.

David Carlisle, assistant chief at USC’s Department of Public Safety, said the victim is a student at the school and initial reports suggest the crash was a hit-and-run.

The Los Angeles Police Department said it was searching for a red sedan last seen driving southbound on Vermont Avenue.
