USC considered deal with professor accused of sexual assault

Good morning. It’s Tuesday, and these are the five USC, Los Angeles, and California stories you need to know for today.

1.

New details emerged in the case of a now-retired USC Marshall professor accused of sexually assaulting and harassing students between 2017 and 2019. Among them: When a student filed a Title IX complaint against C.W. Park, USC at one point considered dropping the case if he agreed to retire early.

2.

A former USC quarterback is the subject of a new Prime Video docuseries called… “Cocaine Quarterback.” The series tells the story of how Owen Hanson went from a bench-rider who sold steroids to teammates to an Australian drug kingpin worthy of a Scorsese film. Hanson seems happy about the attention.

3.

USC’s frats are paying big-name performers to make appearances at their parties. Diplo, Soulja Boy, and Major Lazer are among a half-dozen such performers to host sets on the Row this year, which frats say they pay for through sponsorships and dues.

4.

LA’s tourism industry took a massive blow this summer as international arrivals fell 8%. Souvenir shops are selling fewer knickknacks, sightseeing buses are less crowded, and exotic car rental services have fewer customers. Many blame January’s wildfires and Donald Trump’s policies for the downturn.

5.

An anonymous art collective is going viral on Instagram for projecting anti-Trump artwork on LA buildings. You may have seen their “guerrilla projections” of ICE arresting Jesus or Trump eating the Epstein list. “A little bit of humor can change or even cure how we take in the news,” the group said.
