Contractor sues USC over $1.1 million unpaid bill
A construction firm that worked on USC’s new Rawlinson Stadium is suing the university over $1.1 million in alleged unpaid bills.
Washington-based SunSteel is seeking its money owed, plus interest, in a Dec. 29 lawsuit filed in Los Angeles Superior Court. Clark Construction, the firm that managed the project for USC and hired SunSteel, is also named as a defendant.
Court documents show SunSteel’s original subcontract was worth $2.4 million.
Rawlinson Stadium opened in August just north of campus and houses USC women’s soccer and lacrosse teams. The stadium, touted as a state-of-the-art facility, replaced the old Soni McAlister Field and was constructed in 16 months.
In a statement, USC wrote that it is “aware of the lawsuit” and “reviewing it in detail.” Clark Construction did not respond to a request for comment.
SunSteel isn’t the first contractor to sue USC in recent months. In November, the Turner Construction Company sued the school for $12.3 million, alleging it failed to pay for the construction of Ginsburg Hall, the new computer science building.
