Think your prof sucks? Check this data

Good morning. It’s Wednesday, and these are the five USC, Los Angeles, and California stories you need to know for today.

1.

Ever wish you could compare Rate My Professors ratings across the entire university? You’re in luck. We scraped and analyzed over 64,000 RMP reviews to build the most comprehensive public database of USC faculty ratings. See how professors compare to each other (and learn about biases in the data) at the link below.

2.

Details remain scant in the death of an infant girl Monday in the Cardinal Gardens Apartments. One fact that has emerged: About an hour before police responded to a 911 call about the infant, firefighters transported a 20-year-old woman who was having difficulty breathing to the hospital. It’s unclear if the incidents were related.

3.

USC sued Google for allegedly using patented technology without authorization in its Maps, Earth, and Street View apps. The school said one of its professors developed the software that lets users explore 3D landscapes and zoom between locations. It’s seeking monetary damages and a court order blocking Google from using the tech.

4.

A team of USC researchers built a full-size mock cannabis dispensary complete with display cases, hanging bar lights, and bud posters. One thing missing: the weed. Researchers say the “CANNEX” will let them study how changes in packaging and retail experience can encourage people to choose less harmful products.

5.

UCLA’s satire newspaper keeps cranking out bangers. Among them: “Companies are desperate for spring interns: Just not you.” “Consulting clubs consulted on what the fuck they actually do.” “Angeleno prepares for storm by already driving like shit.”
