Professors slam Trump compact
Good morning. It’s Tuesday, and these are the five USC, Los Angeles, and California stories you need to know for today.
1.
USC faculty denounced the Trump administration’s offer of preferential funding in exchange for conservative reforms during a packed Academic Senate meeting yesterday. “History will not judge USC kindly if it agrees to this compact,” said cinema professor Edward Saxon, who made one of several forceful speeches against the offer.
2.
Expect some noise near Tommy Trojan today as pro-Palestinian student groups stage a walkout on the anniversary of the Oct. 7 terrorist attacks on Israel. The groups say the 12:15 p.m. protest will call for “an end to USC’s complicity in genocide.”
3.
A taco pop-up opened this week on the second floor of the Tutor Campus Center (above Seeds). Street Tacos and Grill is serving bowls, mulitas, and tacos for $16 per entree with the option to add aguas frescas. The pop-up’s last day is tomorrow.
4.
Early voting is underway for California’s controversial Prop. 50, which would temporarily redraw the state’s congressional districts in favor of Democrats. The measure, championed by Gov. Gavin Newsom, is ostensibly meant to counteract GOP-led redistricting in Texas. CalMatters assembled a handy voter guide.

Bad news for fall break travel: Airports across the U.S. are reporting delays thanks to a shortage of air traffic controllers amid the government shutdown. Burbank Airport had no controllers on duty last night, forcing a San Diego control station to handle its flights. LAX hasn’t reported any delays, yet.
