Rumors of ICE action near USC are false, DPS says

Rumors spread quickly at USC on Thursday afternoon that federal agents were conducting immigration enforcement near frat row. But the university’s Department of Public Safety said the presence of the U.S. Marshals was instead related to a kidnapping investigation.

A spokesperson for the U.S. Marshals Service did not immediately respond to a request for comment. The Marshals, which are not part of the Department of Homeland Security, do not traditionally carry out immigration enforcement.

Photos and videos reviewed by Morning, Trojan showed men wearing vests labeled “U.S. Marshals” speaking to two children and at least one woman around 4 p.m. at the corner of University Avenue and 30th Street.
